About this calculator
Enter each score and its weight. If the weights do not add up to 100%, they are scaled automatically.
How to use it
- Enter each component’s score.
- Enter its weight.
- Read the weighted score.
The formula
Weighted score = Σ (score × weight) ÷ Σ weight
- weight
- how much each component counts
Worked example
Three tests worth 20% each and an exam worth 40%
- Scores 85, 78, 90 and 70.
- Weighted = (17 + 15.6 + 18 + 28) ÷ 100 = 78.6%.
What the result means
A heavily weighted exam dominates; small changes there matter most.
Assumptions
- Scores are percentages.
Limitations
- Some courses drop the lowest score first.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a weighted average?
Multiply each score by its weight, add them, and divide by the total weight.
What if weights do not add to 100?
They are scaled so the result is still a percentage.
Can I use marks out of 50?
Convert them to percentages first.
