The formula
Board feet = thickness (in) × width (in) × length (ft) ÷ 12; CFT = board feet ÷ 12

Worked example
Ten pieces of 2 × 6 inch timber, 10 ft long
- Board feet = 2 × 6 × 10 ÷ 12 × 10 = 100.
- CFT = 100 ÷ 12 = 8.33; at ₹2,500 per CFT, ₹20,833.

Sawn timber shrinks as it dries; buy a little extra.
