About this calculator
To measure your stride, walk 10 normal steps, measure the distance and divide by 10.
How to use it
- Enter your steps.
- Enter height and sex, or your measured stride.
- Read the distance.
The formula
- stride
- length of one step in metres
- steps
- your step count
Worked example
10,000 steps for a man 170 cm tall
- Stride ≈ 170 × 0.415 = 70.6 cm.
- Distance = 10,000 × 0.706 m = 7.06 km.
- That is about 1,417 steps per km.
What the result means
Measuring your own stride gives a much better answer than the height estimate.
Assumptions
- Normal walking stride.
Limitations
- Running strides are longer; this is for walking.
