About this calculator

Choose degrees or radians for angles. Multiplication can be implied, so 2pi and 3(4 + 1) work.

How to use it

  1. Type the expression.
  2. Choose degrees or radians.
  3. Read the result.

The formula

Order of operations: brackets, powers, × ÷, + −
^
power (also **)
sqrt, cbrt
roots
sin, cos, tan
trig functions
log, ln
base-10 and natural logs
!
factorial
pi, e
constants

Worked example

2^10 + sqrt(16) × sin(30)

  1. 2¹⁰ = 1,024; √16 = 4; sin 30° = 0.5.
  2. 1,024 + 4 × 0.5 = 1,026.

What the result means

Powers are worked right to left: 2^3^2 = 2^9 = 512.

Assumptions

  • Real numbers.

Limitations

  • Complex numbers and matrices are not supported.

Frequently asked questions

Does −2^2 equal 4 or −4?

−4: the power is applied before the minus sign, as in standard maths.

How do I enter π?

Type pi.

Are angles in degrees?

By default; switch to radians if you need them.
