About this calculator
The calculator also shows the percentage difference, which compares two values without treating either as the starting point.
How to use it
- Enter the old value.
- Enter the new value.
- Read the increase or decrease.
The formula
Percentage change = (new − old) ÷ |old| × 100
- old
- the starting value
- new
- the later value
Worked example
A price that went from ₹450 to ₹540
- Change = 540 − 450 = ₹90.
- Percentage change = 90 ÷ 450 × 100 = 20% increase.
- Multiplier = 1.2.
What the result means
A 20% rise followed by a 20% fall does not bring you back: you end at 96%.
Assumptions
- Old value is not zero.
Limitations
- Percentage change from zero is undefined.
