About this calculator

Enter height and weight. Mosteller is the most widely used formula; Du Bois and Haycock are shown for comparison.

How to use it

  1. Enter height.
  2. Enter weight.
  3. Read the BSA.

The formula

Mosteller BSA = √(height in cm × weight in kg ÷ 3600)
Du Bois
0.007184 × weight^0.425 × height^0.725
Haycock
0.024265 × weight^0.5378 × height^0.3964

Worked example

170 cm, 68 kg

  1. Mosteller = √(170 × 68 ÷ 3600) = 1.79 m².
  2. Du Bois and Haycock both give about 1.79 to 1.80 m².

What the result means

An average adult BSA is about 1.7 m² for women and 1.9 m² for men.

Assumptions

  • Height and weight measured accurately.

Limitations

  • For information only. Medicine doses must be set by a doctor.
