About this calculator
Enter the figure you have and add the fuel price to see what each kilometre costs.
How to use it
- Enter the value.
- Choose the unit it is in and the unit you want.
- Read the result, or see every unit in the table.
The formula
L/100 km = 100 ÷ km/L; mpg (US) = km/L × 2.352; mpg (UK) = km/L × 2.825
- km/L
- distance per litre
- L/100 km
- fuel used per 100 km: lower is better
Worked example
A car that gives 15 km/L
- 15 km/L = 100 ÷ 15 = 6.67 L/100 km.
- = 35.3 mpg (US) or 42.4 mpg (UK).
- At ₹100 a litre, fuel costs ₹6.67 per km.
What the result means
L/100 km is the inverse of km/L, so differences look different on the two scales.
Assumptions
- Exact gallon and mile definitions.
Limitations
- Real mileage depends on traffic, driving and load.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert km/L to L/100 km?
Divide 100 by the km/L figure.
Why is UK mpg higher than US mpg?
The UK gallon is larger (4.55 L vs 3.79 L).
What is good mileage?
For petrol cars in India, 15 to 20 km/L is good in city and highway use combined.
