About this calculator
Traffic is not even through the day, so peak bandwidth is several times the average.
How to use it
- Enter monthly page views.
- Enter average page size.
- Enter a peak factor.
The formula
Monthly data = page views × page size; average Mbps = data in megabits ÷ seconds in a month
- peak factor
- how much busier peak hours are than average
Worked example
1 lakh page views of 2 MB
- Monthly transfer = 200 GB.
- Average 0.62 Mbps, peak about 1.85 Mbps.
What the result means
Images are usually most of a page’s size; compressing them cuts bandwidth a lot.
Assumptions
- 30-day month.
Limitations
- Bots, downloads and video add more.
